COME JOIN US & MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Community Lodgings Inc., founded in 1987 by Alexandria churches, has a mission to lift families from a state of instability and homelessness to independence and self-sufficiency through provision of Affordable Housing, our Transitional Housing Program and our Fifer Family Learning Center. We own five apartment buildings in the Arlandria section of Alexandria, rented to 10-12 transitional housing families and some 35 low-income, mainly Latino families.

Our Transitional Housing Program, Door to Independence, has served over 100 homeless families, providing rent subsidies, counseling, group therapy, skills training and job help.  Three-fourths of these families graduate after two years as independent, self-sufficient citizens—an outstanding success rate. Through counseling and education, these parents learn to create their own success—a breakthrough they share with their children.

The Fifer Family Learning Center, our neighborhood computer center, provides a variety of programs, classes and services to help Arlandria residents of all ages toward a better future. The adult evening training program equips students with basic computer, English and math skills and enhanced life skills for better jobs. Others widen their opportunities through ESL classes (English as a Second Language). Neighborhood teenagers and adults visit regularly to use computers and obtain help with jobs and other needs. The Center is also home to our After-School program, providing academic help, enrichment and summer learning and recreation to 3rd-5th grade children referred by their schools. A similar program provides tutoring, recreation and leadership development to 6th-8th grade neighborhood youths in the vulnerable middle school years.  All these programs will expand next year when Center space is enlarged by construction of an addition.

The needs of the homeless and disadvantaged continue to grow. Resources to respond to these needs are shrinking.  We aim to provide high-quality services and increase the number we serve. You can help us “make a difference” by investing in Community Lodgings and our families’ futures.  Support us, tell your friends about us, volunteer!  To learn more, call 703-549-4407 or e mail-us at cli@communnitylodgings.org
